A new literary addiction....

Wow. In the last 72 hours, I've been introduced to a series of books that is highly engaging. The series begins with the book Twilight, written by Stephenie Meyer. Evidently, this book, which has landed on the New York Times bestseller list, is the hot ticket for the 'tween scene. However, I have encountered a number of adult individuals who are clamoring for more of the story -- eagerly awaiting the third book in the series which is due out in August 2007. I, personally, enjoyed the pacing of the first book -- until the PONR (Point of no return). For me, the PONR was somewhere around chapter seven or eight. I was reading those chapters around 10:00 pm on Saturday night and I didn't go to sleep until after 4:00 am on Sunday morning when I finished the book entirely. I couldn't put it down.

The character development is exceptional, and I found myself laughing aloud in a number of situations. Even though the characters are in high school, I was fully engaged in the story. I will probably have to re-read it in the next couple of days --- AFTER I finish the second book in the series, New Moon.

Ms. Meyer does a delightful job of describing sensuality that is appropriate for young readers, but really brings the situations to life for more mature readers. Two thumbs way, way up.
